WPC CLUB Puget Sound Region - Presidents Message

(from August 2008 issue)
President’s Message:

I feel almost giddy as I reflect on our trip to the Arlington Air Show in July. We had a total car count of 22, and the weather really could not have been any better. A ten car train showed up here at Fenders and Fins in the wee hours of Sunday morning, and we then motored north along Highway Nine to our rendezvous point at the Arlington McDonalds. As we pulled into the lot, I was shocked to find it jam packed with a dozen more WPC members! After the usual coffee and greetings, we were off to the airfield and the start of our show day.

There were plenty of ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ as we rolled onto the grass, and Jack Perry and his Command Car were immediately surrounded by the local military contingent. Amazingly, there were two other Command Cars on display as well! Once we all got settled in, members began touring the show fields and enjoying all the aircraft and displays. At midday we were welcomed into the VIP area for sandwiches and drinks. The air show was thrilling as always, and we all had the sunburns to prove what a great time we had.

Our July Club meeting was held at the show. Harold Shew and Loren Reeves gave us a recap of their recent 300 mile odyssey as part of an 85 car touring group traveling through Idaho and into Montana. Both made the trip without failure, but Loren pretty well used up the Charger’s engine, so it now sports 440 power and is ready for the next road adventure. We also discussed the McMinnville tour to the Regional Meet in greater detail. I think we will have a very strong turnout from our membership. I hope to see many of you there, sharing the good times.

This month’s meeting will be next Tuesday night in Canyon Park at the Crystal Creek Café, where we had our June get together. We will have news on upcoming events, updates on all that is fit to print, and some that isn’t as well! With the addition of the Zucker family in Bellevue, we now have three Town and Countries woodies in our local Club. Their T & C is a twin to Frank Daly’s, and they should look stunning together. The third T & C is of course, Jim Fleming’s gorgeous 1947 sedan. All three woodies have been invited to participate in the Kirkland Concours on September 7th! This is a premier automotive event at Carillon Point in Kirkland, featuring some of the finest classic cars in the West. If you’ve never attended before, check it out and say hello to our WPC guys. You won’t be disappointed!

Well, I had better get going and finish getting my wagon ready for the trip south, see you all next week. Jon
